Week 14 blog post

The three companies I pick are Studio Gibli, Gamestop, and best buy. I'm choosing them because they sound like a lot of fun to do and it will also help the companies out.

Studio Gibli is a small company when it comes to America, but is huge when it comes to japan. They are animation and production company that creates movies like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's delivery Service, and many more. They have a pretty big budget over in Japan, but here they don't have a huge budget. Its not to small of a budget, but Hijo is not that famous because most of America is hooked on super heros. their audience is Anime lovers so 14-25. So the target is young adults and they are good at spreading it to their children.

Gamestop is the second choice i have. Gamestop is video game store that sells new and used video games stuff like Pokemon, Skylanders and much more. They are not a huge corporation, but they are also not small. Gamestop mainly targets young adults who play video games and even older adults who play video games. They have a budget of about 10,000 dollars to spend and they are a good candidate because they are more based in America.

Best Buy is a store that sells everything from candy to electronics. They are know for tv's and computers mainly. they have been around a while and done very well for themselves. Target is one of the big competitors for them. They have a fairly large budget and they work hard to keep it that way by advertising to their target market. The target market is from 14-50 because of all the items sold at Best Buy. The budget would be high because of all the traffic that goes into the store and how much they sell.

With these three choices I believe a media plan can be achieved very easily and for a good reason. I know that Melissa and I will work hard on whatever company we chose and will do our best to help the company better itself for the future. We wouldn't want to here of any of these places going bankrupt.

week 11 Blog post

From my research there are numerous technologies being used on a daily bases, but what people think will stay and be invasive is Spotify, Apple products, electric skin and drones to stalk the people you don't like or do like. With the news of these products staying I'm both excited and ready crawl in a hole.
Spotify is a music based app that lets you listen to music anytime you want without commercial if you pay for it every month. If you don’t pay for it every month you still have commercials, but at least you don't buy the music. Spotify has been around for a while and is the direct competition with Pandora. According the article Spotify will be around longer than Pandora. Pandora is no different, but it’s also not the newest music app and people like things new. Spotify will hopefully be around for who use the app.I can see this app going far.
Apple macs are another technology that will last for a long time unless we run out of money. Macs are used in my program and so many others because they are said to work a little better and simpler than dell or hp. The only issue I have with their article saying that Apple will be longer than Hp is the fact the Apple is expensive. Chargers, getting the product fixed, and even where you can go to fix it. I can see them lasting if they lower the price and get more shops were Apple is sold. Apple does have a nice program for those who like system Apple has. As a MarketSource phone rep I can tell you that android users hate Apple and Apple users hate android.  It’s all based on the operating system they are used to and this doesn't go for all phone or computer users they sometimes like switching and prefer the other. Apple does work wonderfully, but I doesn’t work for everyone. I don't know what to think about Apple, but i know it is far from over.
Electric skin is a new one that is a gold patch that will show your emotions. It mainly advertised to women, but that is probably because men need a handbook for women’s emotions. I think that it will be advertised to men as well because women need a book for them too. It change to show what the person is feeling so it’s basically like a mood ring that goes on your face. It looks cool, but I would never get it. I like to have my emotions known to me and who I chose to share them with. It’s a cool idea for those who don’t care who knows how they are feeling. I don't know if this will go far and I will be surprised if it does.
The last one I noticed was drones. Drones are like the remote control copters and airplanes. The article said it was a good way to watch the house and even make sure no one on the street is doing anything illegal to someone. The only issue with it is when they use it to stalk people. I would be a little worried because no one wants to be stalked every minute of every day. This isn't a time for big brother to grow up and have monitors everywhere. They are cool and I would get one to fly around and maybe chase the cats or dogs around, but I wouldn't stalk someone with it. If drones do go far there will be a law on book for stalking.
The technology I have mentioned is what people think will be around till the sun runs out. I personally think no one can know that because no one know what the future holds. I mean for all we know zombies could be eating our brains tomorrow and technology could be done for good. We could be in a “last of us” situation and no one wants to be in that…I would hope. Technology is a tricky thing and who knows what will be created next.

Week 10 Blog post

This week we are assigned to help our company chose what photo sharing site would be best for them. For Disney I would say facebook, instagram, and google+. These three just about everyone has due to the fact that to have a google account you must create a google+. In the next three paragraphs I will explain why these three photo sharing sites are the best choice for Disney.

Facebook is a very popular site that can share a status, video and pictures. Most of the world that has computers and has social media has a Facebook account. Facebook is the new Myspace because its so much better than Myspace. For Disney to share photo's of the theme parks, the characters, new movies coming out, families having fun and anything else they would share you need to be on the right place. Facebook connects to mothers, fathers, families, and even people who love Disney and want a place to go have fun.  Sharing photos on Facebook would be my first choice for Disney because of how popular and easy it is to create your own page so you are easy to find.

When you think of instagram you think of cats, clothes, and selfies. This is all true, but why not also create the selfie at Disney World. You can share photos of selfies with Mickey, Goofy and Donald. You can share photos of new rides and even just selfies of Disney characters. Instagram is more of a site that today's youth is on because the older generation might not be so interested in all of these new apps. If today's generation sees something cool then you could easily have another booking at Disney World because they will tell their parents about it. I would suggest Instagram just because of how many younger people use it and everyone has an inner Disney in them no matter the age.

Google+ is the last one I would suggest because I know to have a Google account you have to have a Google+ account. It isn't as popular as the prior sites I talked about, but it does still send a notification saying that Disney Google+ shared some photo's. Personally I really don't use Google+ unless I get a notification, but i know others that use it a lot just because they want to keep an eye on it. It never hurts to make a free Google+ and see if anyone notices what you put up.

The three photo sharing sites I suggested are some that are popular and one that isn't as popular. I think if Disney started using these sites they would be even more popular and maybe even get more customers. Facebook, Instagram and Google+ are some sites that I know could help boost the popularity of Disney. Disney doesn't really need a lot of help with popularity due to all the movies it produces, but it never hurts to get just a little more popular in this day and age.

Week 6 podcasts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zzyGpVn7vo-SUPERNATURAL PODCAST!
Season 10 episode 3 of Supernatural

How the podcast went- well it started out good organized and pretty much as any good podcast should start. The content stayed on track from the episode in full and what happened during it. The podcast people were involved for the whole 28min 22sec.  They start by discussing how the episode went and how they liked it. Then they covered the characters in it which some were better than others. the last thing discuss is the death scene with Dean and Crowley which is a big moment whenever Dean dies because then you wonder how they are going to bring him back. The content is on track even though there is some swearing in it. they cover the whole episode not just parts and the they talk about why the episode went the way it did. Over all best podcast i have seen in a long time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RocQ4luw49g (my music podcast#1)

It doesn't seem organized at all and I get they are playing a character, but the content should be the same topic not all over. They do stay on topic for what they are talking about when it comes to intern 2. Its way unorganized otherwise and I have only watched 2 minutes of it. I don't know how much more I can take because the girl reminds me of Boxxy. It got a little organized about Metal not having a desk. I can't watch anymore it's just to annoying and bad. they content is just bad, the characters drive me nuts, and I am not sitting through the whole 21 minutes when I got a headache from 4 minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNTH2JqrdfA (The science of video games)
Very good blog post that stays on topic. It is very educational about video games and how they can interact with how people act. I mean they talk about how video games can make you violent, but the say that the games let you get your anger out. They stay on topic through out the whole thing. It's all based on video games from what was the first to is violence in all video games.  They keep an opened mind on what video games can do and how it can affect those who play. I really do like this because all of the people are educated and not just some random person spouting what they think without doing research. It is very interesting and if you have time i would suggest watching it. It is a very excellent podcast. it even has comedy in it which helps make it less boring.

Week 7

1. What is particular about home Depot's business made this how-to series of videos so successful? what other industries might be able to use a similar strategy?
*The way they planned it and presented it. They took well know disney songs targeting the 90's generation mainly. Disney is so well known by so many people if you here a tune that sounds like the "under the sea" you think oh thats the "Little Mermaid." They also made it really easy to understand what they are trying to tell you. They took the attention grabbing and then put the information in a way everyone can understand it.
*other industries like Target, Walmart, or shopko. they could have done this because then they can advertise what they are selling along with how to put them together. They all have furniture that isn't put together and sometimes its hard to figure out when not using the directions.
2. Are these instructional videos actually more effective than overt commercials?
*yes they put a face to it and make it more personal. Its like being told how to change your light bulb with just directions from the tv that don't wait for you to actually understand the first step. (me most of the time so I have to re-watch until i get it.) They make it more fun and friendly verses intimidating and dull. I watched a few of them and just wanted to dance and go build stuff. So they are more effective not only for directions, but drawing attention to the store.
3. Why did Home Depot choose to focus on producing youtube videos?
*Home Depot decided to focus on videos so they could advertise more and put a face to the company. they wanted to reach more people in a new way due the old not working as well. It as said in one person's reviews that the old way was pushy without a face. the new way is pushy with a face, but its really fun to watch.
Would vidoes exclusively hosted on its company web site or an other video sharing platforms have been equally effective?
*I don't think so because Youtube is a world known name (except for those countries that ban it) which makes advertising on it much easier and more known. Vine is well known too, but it has a time limit which these videos don't work with. Youtube is one of the only places other than facebook that doesn't seem to have a time limit on it.
4. what advantages did home Depot gain from having in store representatives featured in the videos? Name at least two advantages, and explain why they are important.
* They put a face on it. When any company puts a face on something it creates a new image on it. It becomes more friendly and inviting. I know that a lot of people hate the automatic voices that come on and no face to it. The face creates a common ground because they are a person and you are a person.
*They got attention which is big rule of advertising after making money. They took a well known style of singing while teaching and used it to their advantage. They also took Disney songs to the next level by making parodies that everyone can enjoy because they are not mean.
These two advantages are important because without them you have a dull boring commercial that people mute or go make food during.

Blog post 5

http://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2015/02/13/disney-dining-dos-and-donts(Disney Dinning)
https://www.fathers.com/s5-your-situation/c18-divorced-dad/dont-be-a-disney-dad-guest-blog/(dont be a disney dad)
http://www.scarymommy.com/disney-world-with-kids/(Scarymom blog)

Disney dining blog has comments on the bottom and most of them are negative. They are pretty mean some even have swear words in them. One even said "this is a (swear word) post" and some even are targeting people at being gloomy and picky. So i would say this food critique is getting critiqued.
This thread only does have eleven comments and i would assume that more will come from people looking to go to Disneyland. I do have to laugh at the one that say the turkey is actually emu meat! I do hope for his sake they don’t attack him anymore for his opinion.
I don’t see a solution for this one other than people being nicer about disagreeing with this man’s opinion. It does stay on track of thinking this guy is gloomy, picky and wrong. No not that I see.

This blog is easily one that I figured would get lots of hate, but it actually has some supporter on it. It’s called don’t be a Disney dad and a lot of me who I would assume have kids have commented on it. It a positive comment area and they are saying things like “thank you”, “Couldn’t agree more”, and showing lots of support. It’s much different from the first one.
I do not see a solution because I don’t really see one needed because it seems everyone is supportive. The only thing I can see possible is just accepting people for who they are. It does stay on discussion for supporting kids and having fathers in their life.

So this blog is about planning a trip and being mom. Losing your kids is the worst thing for both parents. The comments seem to be about just parents planning trips and seeing about hotels and the best places to go without losing your mind. The comments are all positive and they even have questions in them to create more of a connection to help others.  It does stay on track with mainly just travel oriented content. I would assume they would if there was a problem with anything. I have not seen one yet because this blog most likely is not known to Disney like the other popular blogs.
all of them seem to be able to respond but i didn't see any that did.

Week 13

Disney is known throughout the world with the wide variety of movies from “Snow White” to “Walle.” They didn’t get where they are today without doing some marketing. They have many forums for marketing. The biggest one is Disney.com with this you can stream movies, play games and even have your own account. They create movies and then have a lot of fans young and old tweet or hashtag them on social media sites which they track. They also use games for cell phones. This mainly targets parents because kids want to play games on their phones so you put Disney games on it which shows your location and email.  With these three things they have pretty much taken over the world and all who inhabit it.
Disney.com is a site that allows many things to happen. You can watch movies and play games. They use this to bring people in and it encourages them to spread the word about their site. It shows how family oriented Disney is because even if you 17 you can go on it and watch “Pirates of the Caribbean” without any shame. It makes sense to have the company use this because it brings all ages into the Disney life.  The gain for the company would be to make more money and bring more people to like Disney products and films. The goals would be to make more money by having more people buy their products and then hook them on the products. They would mainly target parents due to the fact of little kids being a Disney fanatic.
Movies are a big source of income and fans for Disney. I know I still remember when I was younger loving all the movies. Now that I watch them though I wonder what made my parents let me with all the sexual puns in them.  The company makes movies that the public will like and then they make money off of them by creating toys and other products. They track the people with what store, movie Theater, and computer location that they purchase the items on. It makes sense to do this because then you know what a flop is and what is not. I have seen some pretty bad Disney stuff in my life time and I have seen some amazing stuff in my life time. The potential gain of this is to see where the most Disney products or movies are being bought and then market their more than anywhere that has less sales. They track who has the most sales and then they send more product which will eventually go on a sales rack and be bought because it’s cheap.
Disney phone games are the mobile location marketing they do. When you download a game onto your phone it says who downloaded it and where they are in the world. Disney can look at this and say that Rachel a 43 year old mother downloaded “where is my water” and then they can shoot her emails about Disney merchandise. They can see where she lives and what time she downloaded it.  The company can use this to see where Disney is the biggest and then they can target that to make money. They encourage the audience to adopt it by making it seem safe and reliable. It would make sense for the company to do this because of most of the world being on mobile phones if you don’t market to them you will crash and burn eventually. The potential gain is money and brand loyalty. The goals are to make children smile and to grow up loving Disney like a good majority of the 90’s kids did.

With all these they have a lot in common. The basic thing is getting brand loyalty and money.  They must market correctly otherwise they could lose those how love Disney. Not to say they don’t lose some over issues like characters being cut out of fabric or parent not liking the content of the movie. They need to know where the target market is, what they are buying and who is doing the buying. Disney is a company many have engrained in their heads and that is why they do so well.

For this week we had to look at a Turbo Tax article and the one I have chosen is http://www.wsj.com/articles/turbotax-suspends-e-filings-on-fraud-concerns-1423269033. In this article there are a couple things that caught my attention. The first one is that they stopped accepting Turbo Tax due to false claims. The second thing is the reaction from honest and possibly dishonest people. The third thing is the fact that they should have expected something like this to happen.

When Turbo Tax stopped accepting the tax claims it was due to the fact of false claims. When this happened people freaked because this was a free way to do your taxes. No one really wants to pay to do their taxes because no one really likes losing money. I do see why they stopped, but at the same time they could have just done better scans so honest people didn’t have to suffer.

The second thing that got me was the reaction. Many people complained on Facebook and other sites about how they just filed theirs. I was one who complained because I don't have the money to go get them done and not doing your taxes is bad. They did start taking them again though which made things easier, but it still bothered me how we can't have nice things because of bad people.

the third thing is why didn't they expect something like this. I mean when you make something illegal to do it gets done anyways. You outlaw drugs they sell them on the street and out of their homes. You can't just ban something and then say it won't happen. As I wish that was possible it just isn't and thats were common sense comes in. As smart at the government claims they are you would think that this wouldn't even be a problem. This is money your dealing with and greed is terrible thing to have because it will make you do not so smart things.

With these things that are in this article it makes me wonder were this world is going. Like my family says when something goes wrong in the world it’s going to hell in a handbag. I do wonder how they get away with this and if they got caught at all. The problem was fixed and Turbo Tax started taking the claims again, but I can see this happening next year as well

Week 4.5 post

I do think that when something is supper vulgar and it’s due to what someone ones says they should be accountable. It just depends on what is said and how others view it. I personally saw nothing wrong with her outing men who are being rude and jerks. The picture was a little far I think, but I have seen worse against women.
I do think maybe a private post on Facebook like in a group that deals with stuff would have been a better choice. I know I’m in groups that deal with a number of issues and it stays between the group so trolls don’t’ come in and don’t start wars.
I don’t think they should be allowed if not invited due to the fact that the groups are made people who might think a lot differently. She posted that because she was sick of women being told from the time their born that technology is a man’s world. Freedom of speech and I she really didn’t say anything wrong.
I do think that her not being able to defend herself was a big part of it. She couldn’t say like “I found this very offensive and it really burns me how it’s ok to post about women and not men.” I think that if she could have explained why she did it might have been ok and also she might not have been fired for posting it. 12 hours is a lot of time to get one side of the story and leaving the other side to assumptions.
My own opinion of the article:
I think people took it too far when it came to thinking defensively.  Like yes jokes are funny, but there is a time and place for certain jokes. I don’t like sexist jokes because they are very mean and when it comes to equality sexist jokes are you’re in the dog house. I do think that you need to be careful who you say them around. This lady doesn’t like them like most ladies out there and I think that’s why she posted it. The issue with posting something like that is you have ignorant people out there who will attack you. I know that I have been attacked because I post things about feminism and some men I have in my family don’t like that. They have told me to stop being a feminist and that I’m a b****. They have said worse. I know how this women feels due to the fact that she just wanted to make it better for women and that comes with a cost. You always have those comments from trolls and they are what get you.
As I read the article I was so happy that finally men who make inappropriate comments will be exposed and then have to pay for their behavior, but then I read more. I do not agree in her being fired because both of the men who made the comments were not fired. Only one was which doesn’t seem right to me.

The biggest issue I have with this article is this I know I have seen women get outed all the time for wearing something some man thought was not appropriate and no one says anything. Those men are not fired or anything.  I don’t see why this women was fired for reporting inappropriate behavior and why only one was fired out of the guys.

Week 2

Disney is one the biggest companies around for more than just its movies, theme parks, and franchises. Disney has started using many social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Disney, Vine, Marvel, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, Social Media Strategy Movie Marketing, and Search Marketing. With all these social media sites it is now wonder that Disney is a big company and house hold name.
Disney uses Facebook, Twitter, Vine, Instagram, Pinterest, and you Tube due to the traffic that flows through it. Facebook is a given because with a lot of people being on Facebook it would be a bad Idea not to have a Facebook. Twitter is one also that has traffic, but not as much due to the limit on characters and finding the exact tweet you’re looking for. Vine is one that has mainly videos and what they use this for is showing the Theme Parks and clips of new movies coming out. It’s like showing commercials just not annoying ones and you can choose to watch them. Instagram is like Vine, but it is used mainly for pictures. They can show photos of new characters and any of the products/places they are trying to promote.  Pinterest is used mainly to find interests and then read articles so using this site would be good if you have a good review and then you can build the reputation. The final one is You Tube and who ever does not know this name lives under a rock. You Tube is used for videos of anything that you can think of that is in the policies of You Tube.  Disney can promote previews for new movies, shows, or franchise they buy to see what the reaction is and if they see it is going to be a negative one then they can cope and figure out how to bounce back from the negative effect on the company.  With all these sites it’s not a surprise that Disney know what will be good for them and what will create some trouble for them.
The other sites they use are Disney, Social Media Strategy, and Movie Marketing,. These social media sites help with promotion and ways to promote it. Looking at the Disney site it has games and info on movies. It help the target market of just about everyone depending on the movie. A lot of the movies are for kids even though the innuendos make me wonder if my future children will ever see them. The Social Media Strategy site is a way to try to promote themselves in the best way so they don’t put their foot in their mouth. Movie Marketing just promotes the movies and chooses what scenes will make people want to see this movie. If you put the wrong scene in than you will end up not doing as well when it comes to the premiere. With these sites the main use is to create a good feeling with the company and to promote the products in a positive way with no backlash.

Disney uses a lot of social media sites and for good reasons. The main reason is to have a connection to their target market and make them happy with what gets produced. If your target market is happy then you will do fantastic in your future. I know that I love the Pirates of the Caribbean series, but the movies got a little worse after the 3rd one. They may have to worry about having a franchise to long and that could show up on social media.
Social Media is not a fad as some would have assumed in the dinosaur age. Social media has in fact impacted every aspect of advertising. Take Facebook for example most of society has one and treat it like the morning newspaper. They go on for news, ads that come up from cookies, and daily videos. They go on social media for more than just that. For some it’s just keeping in touch.
The newspaper was a big thing back when the social network didn’t exist. Everyone would pay to get one and then read it and when they saw someone they would spread the gossip. Now a days all you do is go on a social networking site and if you find something you want your friends to see you share it. You don’t have to write letters or wait to see them just one click and they know what you know. The change is not a fad like bell button jeans.
If you look up Tostitos chips or dip the next day you go on a social site like Facebook you will see an ad for Tostitos. This is because you cookies in your computer will log everything you look up from food to under wear. I know I’ve looked at Spencers.com for Pokémon stuff and the next thing I know I have lingerie coming up in ads. I was like what is going on and why are those on my Facebook? This is what hooks you in to social media if an ad comes up with a sale on Tostitos chips you will be amazed and then go get those chips or beg your mom.
Daily videos are a common thing on social sites from cats to children. When you’re about 20 to 30 you see your friends and cousins having children. This follows in pictures of ultra sounds, how far the baby is, pictures of pregnant tummies, and then baby pictures once the child is born. In my opinion up until the baby is born they all look the same so it gets a little annoying. After the child is born then it’s less annoying. They show how the child is going and videos when they do something cute. This keeps a lot of family members involved in the child’s life without seeing the child in person.

Social media with all these wonderful features has kept it going through the years its been alive. It draws you in like a fishing hook to a fish. Once you take that first bite your hooked and you can never escape; at least in some cases. The easy access to news, cookies, and videos makes it something to be desired for just about anyone who knows how to use a computer. Social media will never die until robots start to take over the world.

Sunday, January 18, 2015

Social Media is something I didn't know a lot about until I was fifteen. I wasn't allowed to use Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Meetme, or any other social site because my mom thought it was a bad idea. I started using Facebook at 16 when my mom said I was finally allowed to use it except only on her computer. Once I got my own computer at 18 I found that the social media world opened up. I created a Tumblr which I now regret and I created a twitter.
I use social media mainly to keep up with my family and friends who have moved away or are still back home. It is really good for cute pics of animal’s too and even political garbage that drives me nuts. What drives me more nuts is football posts. Only two more weeks of peace and then boom football everything. Other than those minor annoyances my social media sites help me keep in contact with those I love and those who I just know.
Social media can also be used for research. I use YouTube for how-to videos, rants from YouTubers, and funny cat videos. It really does help when you’re in history class and you’re looking at the history of something, but you don’t want to read it. It makes it more interesting when it comes to learning subjects that can be very dry. Google is another one that is good for school. What you cannot find on Google is probably something dusty in a library that no has touched for 100 years.
Searches for other information is very easy. If I wanted directions to Disney land from SCTCC all I would have to do is type it in. It would show me car, walk, bus, or bike for my choice of travel. It also helps with looking up companies. I mainly look up makeup companies because I don’t like to use products that test on animals. It’s really easy to read about them and see what their standards are and if they test on animals I won’t use their products.
With social media comes a price and that price is being targeted by ads. I know when I looked up info on pregnancy to help out my friends if they had questions I started getting baby ads. I’m not pregnant so these ads are pointless most of time. I also looked up pandas because I love them and then saw panda ads for everything from cups to prom dresses. I wish I could have bought the prom dress. It took a while to recognize the signs that I was being targets, but once I did I learned to clear my cookies if I knew my passwords.
One thing to consider with all that I have said is everything on the interent true? Some will say yes and others will say no. I chose no because I know that some people will lie through their teeth to get what they want/need. They don’t care who it hurts or how it makes them look. So don’t trust everything on the internet (cough cough Wiki).

Social media is a way to connect with my family, friends, and look up cute video’s/pictures of cats. I do view social media as a weakness to me though because YouTube and Facebook are my morning coffee and newspaper.

Haven't used this since the first year of college. It's been a long time, but now I get to use this again for my Social Media class! Awesome thanks to my awesome art teacher for having me set this up. I'm one step ahead! :)
